Govt announces names of dignitaries for Ekushey Padak

The government yesterday announced names of 17 eminent citizens for awarding prestigious Ekushey Padak for 2017 for their outstanding contribution in their respective fields.
The awardees are - Professor Dr Sharifa Khatun for Language Movement, Shushama Das, Julhas Uddin Ahmed, Ustad Ajijul Islam and Rahmatullah Al Mahmud Selim for music, Tanvir Mokammel for film, Syed Abdullah Khalid for sculpture, Sara Zaker for acting, Abul Momen for journalism, Syed Akram Hossain for research, Professor Emeritus Dr Alamgir Mohammad Sirajuddin for education, Dr Zamilur Reza Chowdhury for science and technology, Professor Dr Mahmud Hasan for social welfare, Poet Omar Ali for language and literature (posthumous), Sukumar Barua for language and literature, Swadesh Roy for journalism and Shamim Ara Nipa for choreography.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hand over the Ekushey Padak to the awardees on February 20 at Osmani Memorial Auditorium, said an official release.
