5 sentenced to death for killing Uma Debi in Manikganj

A Manikganj court on Tuesday sentenced five people to death for killing Uma Debi Chakrabarty, mother of journalist at Madhya Para village in Singair upazila in 2010.
The condemned convicted are Ishaq Bhuiyan, 47; Iman Ali Fakir, 52; Bacchu, 42; Shahidul Islam, 47 and Nannu Miah, 33.
The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each.
According to the prosecution, Uma Debi, mother of Manobendra Chakrabarty, was killed in robbers' attack at their house on August 9, 2010.
Later, Manobendra, a district correspondent of vernacular newspaper Daliy Ittefaq, filed a case on the following day.
Police pressed charge sheet on April 8, 2012.
After examining all records and depositions of 13 witnesses, Additional District and Session Judge Al Mahmud Faizul Kabir handed down the verdict.
