New Thai envoy meets FM, condoles terror attacks

The newly appointed ambassador of Thailand in Dhaka Panpimon Suwannapongse on Tuesday paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister A H Mahmood Ali at the ministry of foreign affairs here.
The ambassador expressed condolences for the victims of the terrorist attack on July 1 at the Holy Artisan Cafe, in Gulshan, said an official release.
She mentioned that the Prime Minister of Thailand did earlier send a message of condolence to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina condemning the terrorist attack. The foreign minister informed the ambassador that appropriate security arrangement has been put in place for the diplomats and foreigners.
Referring to the terror attack in Sholakia on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr, the minister stated that because of preparedness and quick measures taken by the law enforcement agencies, large-scale casualty had been avoided.
He stressed on the need for greater awareness against the menace of terrorism.
The envoy informed the minister that Thai investors are interested to invest in the power sector and a delegation of potential investors would visit Bangladesh in near future.
She also informed about Thailand's desire to expand cooperation in the healthcare sector.
The possibility of starting negotiation for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Bangladesh and Thailand was discussed in the meeting.
