Bangladesh presides UN global counter-terrorism meeting

Bangladesh has presided a meeting on implementation of the "United Nations Counter Terrorism Strategy" held at the UN headquarters in New York on Wednesday.
Masud Bin Momen, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations, presided over the meeting.
The UN Secretary-General Ant¢nio Guterres, who was present in the meeting, gave speech on the guidelines to counter terrorism and some proposals to build capacity of the UN to this end.
It was arranged by President of the UN General Assembly Peter Thompson at the UN headquarters in New York.
Speaking on the occasion, Masud Bin Momen said "The meeting is a significant step to increase the capacity of the UN to implement the strategy to counter global terrorism. We would have to work together to strengthen the global effort to fight terrorism after detecting the elements that inspire terrorism," he said.
Representatives of the UN member states demanded initiative from the UN Secretary-General to increase the UN capacity to fight terrorism.
The UN Secretary-General is expected to present his specific proposals at its General Assembly within few weeks.
