PM thanks opposition for making parliament effective

The Leader of the House and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday extended her sincere thanks to the opposition party for their cooperation in making the Jatiya Sangsad (parliament) an effective and constructive forum to work in public interests.
The prime minister said this while giving her valedictory speech in the 14th session of the 10th Jatiya Sangsad. Terming the 14th session of the 10th Jatiya Sangsad a successful one, the prime minister said active participation of the opposition party has strengthened the parliament activities.
"The opposition party is working for welfare of the people and they have contributed to create an excellent atmosphere in the House," she said.
Sheikh Hasina said the 14th session of the 10th Jatiya Sangsad has made a history through adoption of the resolution to observe March 25 as the 'Day of Genocide' commemorating the massacre of Pakistani Army on this day in 1971.
Highlighting the country's development in socioeconomic areas, the prime minister said the people now live in financial comfort as the inflation rate remains under control. The government is continuously monitoring the price inflation, she added.
She said the government is selling each kilogram of rice at Taka 10 to 50 lakh poor and houses were constructed for homeless people. The government is doing everything what is necessary to make the life financially solvent and give comfort, she added.
Responding the request of the Leader of the Opposition Begum Rowshan Ershad to increase the age limit for government service, the prime minister said her government has no plan to increase the age-limit as there is no academic session jam.
Sheikh Hasina said government services are not the last and only option for educated youths. They can now find job in private sector and even can arrange self-employment taking advantages provided by the government.
The prime minister said the government is working to announce a new wage board for journalists and newspaper employees. "As most of the media and newspapers are owned by private organizations, so it's their matter what they will do," she said.
Despite that the process of announcing the new wage board is progressing, she added.
