The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Tuesday (April 25) upheld a High Court order that stayed the trial proceedings of four sabotage cases filed against BNP chief Khaleda Zia.
Vacation bench Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice Hasan Foez Siddique upheld the stay order by putting a state appeal in stand over for two weeks that sought a halt of the HC order.
Additional Attorney General M Momtaj Uddin Fakir moved for the state while senior lawyer AJ Mohammed Ali moved for Khaleda Zia in the court.
The cases were filed against Khaleda Zia with Jatrabari and Darussalam police stations during the anti-government movement in 2015 by BNP-led alliance.
On April 13, an HC bench comprised of Justice Miftah Uddin Chowdhury and Justice ANM Basir Ullah issued a rule imposing stay order on trial of the cases.
On Tuesday, the state filed an appeal plea with the Appellate Division seeking stay order of the HC order.
Lawyers told Banglanews that trial of the four arson cases will remain adjourned as before.
