Key accused in primary school teacher ‘gang rape’ detained

The police have detained the main accused in the alleged gang rape of a primary school teacher in the classroom in Betagi upazila of Barguna.
The law enforcement said they detained the accused, Sumon Biswas, from the house of one of his relatives in Ramgati upazila of Lakshmipur on Wednesday.
The matter, however, was disclosed on Friday.
The accused is a resident of Hosnabad village in Betagi upazila.
Ramgati police station officer-in-charge Md Iqbal Hossain said acting on tip-off police arrested Sumon from his relative’s house in Charsita village of Ramgati upazila and handed over to Barguna police.
On 17 August, an assistant teacher of a primary school was allegedly gang-raped in a classroom of a primary school in Betagi upazila in Barguna keeping her husband locked inside another classroom.
The victim filed a case with Betagi police station on that night accusing six people – Sumon Biswas, 35, son of Md Hiron Biswas; Md Rasel, 28, son of Abdul Barek Mia; Sumon Kazi, 30, son of Abdul Kuddus; Md Rabiul, 18, son of Abdur Rahman; and Md Jewel, 30, son of Md Abdur Rahamn of Kodomtola village in Hosnabad union of Betagi upazila.
