Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will share Bangladesh’s achievements and success stories in its agriculture sector in the upcoming IFAD meeting.
The Prime Minister will present a keynote paper at the meeting on February 13 highlighting Bangladesh’s achievements in its agriculture sector, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali told a press briefing here on Thursday.
He said Sheikh Hasina will visit Italy and the Holy See (Vatican City) from February 12 to 14 and Dhaka hopes that the visit will help brighten Bangladesh’s image abroad.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury and Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali will accompany the Prime Minister during the visit.
The Prime Minister and her entourage will leave Dhaka on February 11 and return home on February 15, Minister Ali told journalists.
She will also attend the annual governing council meeting of Rome-based International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), a specialised agency of the United Nations during the visit, at the invitation of IFAD President Gilbert F Houngbo.
Hasina will present the keynote paper at the inaugural session of the council on February 13. “The Prime Minister will share Bangladesh’s achievements and success stories in agriculture sector in the IFAD meeting while presenting her keynote paper,” Minister Ali said.
The theme of this year’s council is ‘From fragility to long-term resilience: Investing in sustainable rural economies.’
The governing Council of IFAD is the Fund’s principal Governing Body having full decision-making powers.
It consists of all of IFAD’s Member States and meets annually. It is attended by the official Member State representatives. Observers are also invited to attend sessions.
IFAD has more than 30 years of experience working in Bangladesh.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will visit Vatican on February 12 to hold a meeting with Pope Francis.
It is a return visit at the invitation of the Pope. Pope Francis visited Dhaka when he used the word 'Rohingya', for the first time during his Bangladesh-Myanmar visit in the last week of November and early December 2017.
