BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s bail in Zia Charitable Trust corruption case has been extended till June 4.
Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman of the Special Judge Court -5 set up at Alia Madrassa in the capital's Bakshibazar allowed the extension following a petition moved by Khaleda’s lawyer Sanaullah Miah.
In the previous hearing, Khaleda’s bail in this case was extended until today (May 10).
Meanwhile, for the fourth time, Khaleda was kept from appearing before the court at today’s hearing. Jail authorities, in their custody report, cited “physical illness” for the nonappearance.
On February 8, Khaleda, accused in over 34 cases, was convicted for five years' rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. Her bail is yet to be settled at the Supreme Court.
The ACC filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case with Ramna Police Station in July 2008, accusing the six of misappropriating over Tk 2.1 crore that came from a foreign bank as grants for orphans.
