Woman killed in Bandarban landslide

A woman has been killed in a landslide amid heavy rains in Sadar upazila of Bandarban.

Protima Das, 45, was buried alive when a chunk of mud fell on her tin-shed house at a hill in Bir Bahadur Nagar area around 11:45am, said police.

Body of the victim was recovered and sent to Sadar hospital after police, members of fire service with the help of locals conducted a rescue operation there, said Golam Sawar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station.

Protima and her husband, Milon Das, were inside the house during the landslide, the OC said.

Since last night, the locality is seeing a heavy rainfall.

A new housing project mostly of tin-shed houses has been established recently cutting hills in the area.
