Jatiya Sangshad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, MP, has said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had struggled his whole life for establishing just rights of the Bangalee nation.
“Bangabandhu never bowed down before injustice and was uncompromised in establishing an independent Bangladesh free from poverty, exploitation and disparity to bring economic emancipation of the Bengali nation,” she said.
The speaker was addressing a mourning discussion organised by Pirganj upazila Awami League (AL) on National mourning Day and 43rd martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Sunday evening at Pirganj upazila parishad auditorium here as the chief guest.
Earlier, a one minute silence was observed to pay due homage to Bangabandhu and his other family members, who were assassinated at the black night of 15 August, 1975.
While narrating strong personality of Bangabandhu, the speaker said the young ‘Khoka’ of Tungipara was completely fearless since his childhood in the struggle for establishing the rights of the exploited and deprived Bangalee nation.
“At the call of Bangabandhu, people spontaneously took part in the blood- stained War of Liberation and snatched away the red sun of independence in exchange of 30-lakh martyrs’ blood and honour of two-lakh women,” she said.
Dr Chaudhury said Bangabandhu was completely inflexible and unconvincing toward establishing an independent society by ignoring red-eyes of the then Pakistani military regimes.
She said Bangabandhu didn’t lose self-confidence and courage even when preparation of execution stage was being taken place in front of him.
“At that crucial time Bangabandhu said standing on the hanging stage, I will say – I am a Bangalee, Bangla is my country and Bengali is my language,” she mentioned.
The speaker said Bangladesh has already entered the category of developing countries from the least developed nations.
“The country will be turned into a developed ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Bangabandhu under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through achieving economic freedom with people’s support by 2041,” she hoped.
She called upon every citizen to work sincerely from their own places to implement Bangabandhu’s unfinished works for building a peaceful, developed and modern Bangladesh.
Presided over by Acting President of Pirganj upazila AL Tanzur Imam Md Saiful Newaz, Pirganj municipality Mayor and General Secretary of upazila AL Abu Saleh Md Tazimul Islam Shamim moderated the discussion.
