“We want an election acceptable to all and will make sure it remains beyond question,” Kabita said while briefing assistant returning officers from Rajshahi, Rangpur and Khulna on Friday ahead of the 11th parliamentary election.
“There’s no such thing as 100 percent fair election in any country. It won’t happen in Bangladesh either,” she said.
“But we don’t want to hold an election, for which people will always hold us accountable.”
“In Bangladesh, the winds have started blowing from election camps. We have to make sure the winds do not become turbulent,” she said.
The commissioner urged the election officials not to be biased against or in favour of any party while playing their roles.
Her warning came as the Election Commission is preparing for the next national polls to be held on Dec 30.
“The Election Commission will never want the election to be questioned. We have made field-level visits in every election since taking oaths.”
Kabita said: “Don’t be negligent in carrying out your duties. Be honest and make the election acceptable to all. Holding a free and fair election is your sacred duty.”
Kabita called upon the polling officers for maintaining good relations with all officials and employees and journalists involved in the election.
