‘Don’t stand close to my body’

T-shirt, marked with ‘Ga Gheshe Daraben Na’ (Don’t stand close to the body), a new protest trend against female sexual harassment in roads and mass transportation, went viral on social media in Bangladesh.

The new idea created also a controversy on facebook, youtube platform.

The idea is a brainchild of Zinat Jahan Nisha, proprietor of a social media based women’s wears and ornaments seller.
“I often become victim of sexual harassment in public transportation. The idea of branding ‘Ga Gheshe Daraben Na’ marked T-shirt hit upon my head as a protest against female sexual harassment,” Nisha said.

Nisha also added, “I fell victim to sexual harassment once in a public transportation few years earlier. I protested that time, but it was in vain.”

Earlier, she also manufactured a women hair punching needle, marked with ‘Ga Gheshe Daraben Na’. She branded it to the market under her own online selling platform.

She said that her aim was not to be benefited through this product.

“It is not a problem to me if my body is accidentally touched with men in the buses. It can happen in the crowded bus and that is normal. But many men try to take advantages from this. It can be accepted no way,” Zinat Jahan Nisha said.
