Family members meet Mufti Hannan at jail

Family members met death-row convict Harkat-ul-Jihad leader Mufti Abdul Hannan in Kashimpur High Security Jail in Gazipur on Wednesday morning.

His wife, two daughters and elder brother came to pay the last visit. Jail authorities said MUfti Hannan may be executed today (Wednesday).

The jail authorities earlier on Tuesday asked the family members of Mufti Hannan and his associate Sharif Shahed Bipul to meet the death-row convicts.

Mufti Hannan and Sharif Shahed on Monday were informed of the rejection of their appeal for presidential clemency. Preparation for the execution of the death-row convicts have been completed while the executioner is also kept ready for his task, a senior jail superintendent said.

Hannan and his two associates were handed death penalty for launching a grenade attack on the then UK ambassador Anwar Chowdhury at Shahjalal Shrine in Sylhet in 2004.
