World Meteorological Day observed

The World Meteorological Day was observed today in the country like other countries aiming to educate people about different weather and climate events to save their lives and properties.
To mark the day, Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) took various programmes across the country.
A discussion was organised at the BMD headquarters today highlighting significance of the day.
Defense Secretary Akhter Hussain Bhuiyan inaugurated the day at BMD headquarters as the chief guest. Later, he spoke at the discussion, an ISPR press release said.
Officials and former directors of BMD and other high officials of different organisations were present on the occasion.
Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar broadcast special programmes marking the day.
This year's theme of the day is "Weather-ready, climate-smart".
The date when the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) was established, which is 23 March 1950, was dubbed World Meteorological Day.
Every year, the organisation announces a slogan for this day. All member countries celebrate World Meteorology Day. The day is celebrated every year to honour the entry into force of the convention that formed World Meteorological Organization.
