12 things Truecaller can do for you

Truecaller is an app that has gained a fair bit of popularity, primarily because it helps in identifying calls from unknown numbers, blocking calls and avoiding spammers. However, that’s not all that you can do as there is so much more that the app has on offer. You can make video calls, send flash messages and even make payments. Here are 12 such features of the app you should know about:
Create your own profile
When getting started with Truecaller, you get to set up your own profile and you can customize it in the way you like. You can add your picture, your name and additional information like an address, email ID or a website. You can even connect your Truecaller profile to your Google or Facebook accounts. If you are concerned about your privacy, then you can go to General settings in the app and choose who gets to see your profile.
Mark 'people' as spam
Too annoyed of various people calling you to sell some schemes and offers? With Truecaller, you can block them. Once a number has been blocked by too many people, Truecaller will show you a red coloured contact card when you receive a call from that number to notify you about spammers.
Check who is calling even without using your phone's data
If you are not connected to the Internet, Truecaller may tell you that it requires a data connection to work properly. However, if it has identified the number once, the app will identify it whether or not you are connected to the Internet.
Make video calls
Yes, it is possible to make video calls via Truecaller. Just note that the call will be made via Google’s video calling app Duo so you need to have that installed too. Just go to Truecaller, and select the information icon next to the person you wish to call. This will open a page that has the options of Call, SMS, Video Call, Edit, and Block. Select the option of video call, and Truecaller will automatically call the person via Duo.
Set Truecaller as your default dialler
In order to do this, open the app and click the hamburger icon and go to ‘Settings.’ Select the option of General and scroll down to ‘Missed Call Notifications.’ On enabling this, the app will ask you for various permissions in order for it to become your default dialler.
Make Truecaller as your default messaging app
Truecaller will prompt you a number of times to enable this. Setting Truecaller as your default messaging app lets you identify spam messages, identifies senders of unknown messages, block spam and telemarketing messages, etc.
Search numbers/contacts with names, e-mail IDs
The app can not only be used to block numbers and protect yourself from spammers, it is also a directory. Just type in the name of the person you wish to search the number of, and Truecaller will show you results from its database. Similarly, you can also search for numbers using email IDS. The ‘Search’ option of Truecaller also has numbers of various airlines, railways, healthcare services, banks, hotels, etc saved.
Unlist your number from the app
If you don’t want your number to appear in Truecaller’s database, then you need to visit https://www.truecaller.com/unlisting. Just type in your number there including the country code, select Unlist Phone Number, and you’re done. However, you cannot have the app installed if you do so.
See who is online as well as check 'Last seen'
Open the app and select the information icon next to the contact. You’ll be taken to the contact card that has all the information about the contact. Here, just below the name and tag of the person, you’ll be able to see when they were last online or whether they are on a call. Want to disable this for your contact card? Head to settings, select General and disable ‘Availability.’
Make Spam folder for SMS
Open the app and click on the ‘Message’ icon on bottom left. Enable Spam protection. This will prompt a message alerting that Truecaller will become your default message app. Press Continue on the card. Finally, Truecaller will show you another card to notify of changing the messaging app. Click ‘Ok’ to proceed.
Make payments
Truecaller has tied up with several banks including HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Axis Bank for Truecaller Pay. The app lets users create their own Virtual Payment Address, and after this they can send or receive money using UPI. Users can also get prepaid or postpaid recharge done through this feature.
Send Flash Messages
To send a Flash Message, tap on the lightening like icon next to the person’s name in your Truecaller call log. Type your message and hit send. The person you send it to will see your Flash screen for the 60 secs.
